Is Netflixing the Next Buzz in E-learning Market?

Based on different choices and preferences of today’s generation, a plethora of TV shows such as Stranger Things, Parks and Recreation, Friends, Breaking Bad and more are gaining immense popularity over Netflix. Entertainment, great content and optimum engagement make audiences subscribe and watch program series time and again. Because the platform is easy to navigate and optimizable as per the search preferences of different users, Netflix has become widely popular. This is the reason why organizations prefer Netflixing of online learning platforms to deliver an intuitive and customized training delivery.

The buzz around Netflix is all around. It has become one of the most successful and entertaining platforms showing subscribed TV shows and movies to their viewers. The Netflix model is widely adopted by e-learning organizations as an effective corporate training strategy. If the learner chooses a specific course through an e-learning platform, then instead of getting the direct link to the course, a list of relevant e-courses appear on the screen. For instance, sales employees explore courses based on sales enablement, sales skills training and more. Based on their search, they not only access the required list, but also get exposure to other courses which they may not have seen earlier. Consequently, it helps to improve an individual’s entire learning journey and the overall business growth.

E-learning Trends that Will Emerge in Future

We attended DevLearn 2018 Conference, where Netflixing of training content was the major highlight. In addition, trends such as game-based learning, AR, adaptive learning and more will continue to evolve. In the next few years, organizations will lay more emphasis on incorporating badges, scores and leaderboards to incentivize the entire corporate training experience. Employees who lack confidence or consider training as boring, will use games as effective tools to boost fun and engagement. On the other hand, AR also enables business developers to overlap virtual data into real-life scenarios. It has been trending across the entire e-learning landscape for varied industries including retail, aviation, healthcare and more. We believe that the massive adoption of Virtual Reality (VR) is still a few years away due to hardware costs and fidelity issues. However, there is a good possibility of delivering Augmented Reality (AR) solutions in 2019 and beyond. Awareness of AR has reached the right threshold level, resulting in innovative e-learning delivery. Similarly, adaptive learning will set stronger footholds with increasing needs of the diversified audiences. As the tailored content strives to understand what a learner already knows and how the task at hand is approached, organizations can personalize the learning experience.

Instead of creating standalone courses, e-learning solutions driven by innovative technology have become the major driving factor for organizational success. This is the reason why new-age learners are getting more inclined towards e-learning for vertical-aligned trainings towards sales, onboarding, compliance, skill development and other purposes.
